Declan Dunn's (Adrian Pasdar) fascination with mystical
phenomena began several years ago when he was buried under an
avalanche and given up for dead. After he miraculously survived,
he committed his life to investigating miracles and the absolute
proof of their existence. Now a professor of Anthropology at
Northern University of Oregon, Declan has the training, support
staff and the opportunity to study the uncanny, inexplicable
phenomena people call "miracles." Each week, Declan
and a skeptical psychiatrist, Peggy (Rae
Dawn
Chong), embark on an adventure of the impossible: The quest to
explain what science cannot.
Episode
1.21. "Do You See What I See?"
Declan's
mentor, an anthropologist (Barry Corbin), has unsettling visions
caused by a brain tumor.
|
|
Professor
Rudy Sullivan.
Barry plays an archeologist who begins to see things like
aliens, camels, clowns, wolves and people he knew in the past.
After undergoing extensive medical studies, doctors find out
that this string of hallucinations is caused by a brain tumor
awakening scenes from his younger years. This makes
Sullivan
reflect on his life and
realize he is alone. Before surgery he
advices Declan (Adrian Pasdar), his protégée, to find somebody
to love before it's too late.
Barry exhibits a wide range of his skills as an actor as
Sullivan is seen scared, angry, mad, tender, and even crying
throughout this episode.

SULLIVAN:
Who the hell is Peggy?
DECLAN:
She's a psychiatrist.
SULLIVAN:
You think I'm going nuts!
DECLAN: No,
I don't. Not at all. I'm just worried about you, Rudy.
SULLIVAN:
THAT'S NOT YOUR JOB!
SULLIVAN: I don't mean any disrespect, Dr. Fowler, I'm sure
you're very competent in your area. But, uh, I don't think
psychotherapy is the answer for me.
FOWLER: And
why is that?
SULLIVAN:
I've never been much of a one for introspection.
FOWLER: Ah,
a man of action.
SULLIVAN:
You could say that.
FOWLER: I
understand you've taken hallucinogens as part of your research.
SULLIVAN:
Those drugs brought on images that were very different, very,
uh, abstract.
FOWLER: I
see.
SULLIVAN:
This has nothing to do with my work, Doctor.
FOWLER:
Okay, what about personal relationships? Family, friends...
SULLIVAN:
(Sigh) Good.
FOWLER:
Professor, if your students gave you one-word answers...
SULLIVAN:
All right. I have a brother in Baltimore, a couple of nieces. We
get together once a year for turkey and stuffing.
That's it.
FOWLER: And
that's how you like it?
SULLIVAN:
That's the way it is.
FOWLER: Ah,
what about friends?
SULLIVAN: I
have friends all over, Dr. Fowler. I've got friends on every
continent.
FOWLER:
What about close friends? I mean, people that you call up just
to chat.
SULLIVAN: I
don't chat. Does that make me nuts?
FOWLER:
No...and I don't think you're nuts.
SULLIVAN:
We agree on something, then.
FOWLER: But
that doesn't mean that your problem isn't psychological.
SULLIVAN:
So, what are we going to do about it? Am I having another hour
of head shrinking?
FOWLER:
Well, before we can continue, I'd like to schedule a physical.
It's just a precaution.
SULLIVAN:
Okay.
FOWLER:
Excellent.
SULLIVAN:
(Chuckles) You hear that, Declan? It's not an open door to the spirit
world. It's just a brain tumor.
SULLIVAN:
But Declan...I'm lonely. (Sigh) I--I guess it took this brain tumor to wake
me up. And now it's too late.
DECLAN:
Don't say that. It's not too late.
SULLIVAN:
Yeah...for me. But if I've learned one thing in this, it's for
you, Declan. Find somebody you love, somebody who'll love you
back, and then cling together...for all you're worth, 'cause the
rest of it is not worth a hill of beans.
